I’m in Italy!!! My blood is already 87% espresso (caffeine overdoses are UGLY) and I’ve seen more old rocks than a 60 year old Geologist. As it turns out, pasta and wine can in fact act as a functional food pyramid and I will not hear otherwise. Carbs 4 life.
The last few days have been a bit chaotic, what with running from Rome to Oplontis, Pompeii, and back again before finally arriving at our home base in beautiful Orvieto. Art History and Drawing classes are fully underway; Italy’s a pretty okay setting. Safe to say I’m feeling ArTsIeR than ever. Following edited pictures for evidence.
Embarrassing moment of the week: an angry Italian woman yelling “CHEESE?” at me after I failed to understand her question about my pasta preference. Humility check completed. Italian phrasebook now permanently on hand.
Our teachers have strongly insisted that we partake in “sustained looking” while romping around the ancient sites of the last few days, so I’ve made it sort of a theme of my trip. Look hard and long, take in all the details as well as the big picture; photography, drawing, and writing included. Let the creativity flow (almost as constantly as the vino).
My multimedia adventure continues – more to come after our first free weekend in Orvieto, my new favorite place in the world. Have a good weekend lovies!
